THE LAMB OF GOD by Wm Henry Cash, Jr 1927 - 2012

THE LAMB OF GOD  by Wm Henry Cash, Jr   1927 - 2012

John 1.29

BEHOLD, THE LAMB OF GOD

WHICH TAKETH AWAY THE SIN

OF THE WORLD.

Text:   JOHN 1.19 - 37

                                               REV. 5. 1 - 14

INTRODUCTION:    IN THE OLD TESTAMENT, THE LAMB WAS THE SYMBOL OF SACRIFICE FOR SINS.    THE PICTURE GIVEN IN THE SACRIFICE OF A LAMB IS THAT JESUS IS THE ONE WHO OFFERED THE FINAL AND ONLY SACRIFICE THAT MANKIND WOULD EVER NEED TO HAVE SINS FORGIVEN, AND TO HAVE ETERNAL LIFE.  JOHN THE BAPTIST RECOGNIZED JESUS FOR HE SAID "BEHOLD ! THE LAMB OF GOD WHICH TAKETH AWAY THE SIN OF THE WORLD."    IN THE BOOK OF REVELATION, JESUS IS PRESENTED TO US AS THAT LAMB SLAIN FROM BEFORE THE FOUNDATION OF THE WORLD.            MY PROPOSITION IS THAT JESUS AS THE LAMB OF GOD GAVE HIS LIFE FOR US.

SCRIPTURE TEXT
JOHN
1.19    And this is the record of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him,  Who art thou?
1.20   And he confessed and denied not, but confessed, I am not the Christ.
1.21   And they asked him,  What then?  Art thou Elias?   And he saith, I am not.   Art thou that Prophet?  And he answered, No.
1.22  Then said they unto him,  Who art thou? that we may give an answer to them that sent us.  What sayest thou of thyself?
1.23  He said,  I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said the Prophet Esaias.
1.24   And they which were sent were of the Pharisees.
1.25  And they asked him, and said unto him,  Why baptizest thou then, if thou be not that Christ, nor Elias, neither that Prophet?
1.26  John answered them saying,  I baptize you with water: but there standeth one among you, whom ye know not;
1.27  He it is, who coming after me is preferred before me, who shoe's latchet I am not worthy to unloose.
1.28  These things were done in Bethabara beyond Jordan, where John was baptizing.
1.29  The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and he saith, Behold, the Lamb of God which taketh away the sin of the world.
1.30  This is he of whom I said, After me cometh a man which is preferred before me: for he was before me.
1.31  And I knew him not: but  that he should be made manifest to Israel, therefore am I come baptizing with water.
1.32  And John bare record, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode on him.
1.33  And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me,  Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost.
1.34  And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God.
1.35  Again the next day after John stood, and two of his disciples;
1.36  And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he saith, Behold the Lamb of God!
1.37  And the two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus.

Here John proclaims that Jesus is the Son of God, the Lamb of God which taketh away the sin of the world.  As the Passover Lamb which was in type a picture of what Jesus would do by going to the Cross, he had to be spotless, pure, and without sin to be the sacrifice.    He is the Lamb prophesied in Isaiah chapter 53. 1 - 12    in particular verses 5 - 7.

Isaiah 53  verses 1 - 6
"Who hath believed our report ?   and to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed?   For He shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.  He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted;  But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him, and with his stripes we are healed.  All we like sheep have gone astray, we have turned every one to his own way, and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. He was oppressed, and was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, he openeth not his mouth."

I.  The Lamb of God in HIS UNIQUE CHARACTER.

John 1.15 - 17   John bare witness of him, and cried, saying,  "This was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me.  And of his fulness have we received, and grace for grace.   For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ."

Preferred before John, John knew that this was MESSIAH.  He declares that Jesus is full of grace and truth.   The Law addressed mankind as members of the Old Creation - while Grace addresses mankind as members of the New Creation.

Philippians 5.19 But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

Ephesians 2.1 - 3   And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins; wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of power of the air,  the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience.  Among whom also we all had our conversation (manner of life) in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh, and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others. "

Romans 5.1-5  Therefore being justified by faith we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also, knowing that tribulation worketh patience, and patience, experience; and experience, hope: and hope maketh not ashamed because the love of God is spread abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.

Ephesians 2: verses 4 - 7  But God who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace are ye saved) and hath raised us up together and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus that in the ages to come he might show the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.

That John should describe Jesus as being full of GRACE AND TRUTH points us to the fact that here indeed was God living among us, and yet He had come to be the SACRIFICE OF THE LAMB for us that we might have everlasting life.

Romans 5.12   Wherefore as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin, and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned. Romans 5.15  If through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many.

II. The Lamb of God in HIS UNIQUE MISSION.

John 1.18   No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.

In the past,  God was unrevealed, and unseen, except for certain Angelic "appearances" of God   Malachi 3.1 tells us  "Behold, I will send my messenger and he shall prepare the way before me: and the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in:  behold, he shall come, saith the LORD of hosts.   Isaiah 40.3  The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the LORD, make straight in the desert a highway for our God.  Philippians 3.9 tells us  "and be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith."   Ephesians 2.8 -9  For by grace are ye saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God, not of works, lest any man should boast.  Romans 3.23 - 26  For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.  Being justified freely by the grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God: to declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.
In the Passover, the memory of how the people of God were instructed to put the BLOOD upon the posts of the door, and the Lintel -  for only in doing so would the death angel pass over...
In making their exodus from Egypt,  they were a REDEEMED PEOPLE.... They had been delivered and now were on their way back to their land.
John the forerunner pictures Jesus as the LAMB OF GOD WHICH TAKETH AWAY THE SIN OF THE WORLD.

Abraham,   Jacob,  Moses,  all knew of God as the One who spoke with them, and who appeared to them in Angelic form.   People were expecting Messiah - the Deliverer - the Redeemer to come.
Abraham received the promise of a SEED - a son -  through whom the Blessing would come on the world.   Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses.    And now here was John declaring, that the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob was here as the LAMB which taketh away the sins of the world.   and that through HIM the FATHER HAS BEEN DECLARED.
John 14. 6 - 11  Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth and the life, no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him and have seen him.  Philip saith unto him, Show us the Father, and it sufficeth us. Jesus saith unto him,  Have I been with you so long time with you and yet hast thou not known me, Philip?   he that hath seen me hath seen the Father, and how sayest thou then, Show us the Father?   Believest thou not that I am in the Father and the Father in me?  the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the workd.  Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father in me: or else believe me for the work's sake."

John was willing to submit to God's will that he was to PREPARE THE WAY for the ONE WHO WOULD COME ....
Now we have a choice.
We can receive Him and believe on Him as the Lamb of God which taketh away the sin of the world.

BLESSINGS IN MY PATHWAY - ALONG LIFE'S ROAD WITH JUNEBUG

BLESSINGS IN MY PATHWAY

JUNE BLESSING  1933

Here I was, nestled in the arms of my father and mother.
Born in 1933,  I was fortunate.    Both Mother and Dad were born in 1915 a bit over 17 years old.
I KNEW I WAS LOVED.
OH IT WAS SO NICE WHEN MOTHER HELD ME
TALKED TO ME,
SUNG TO ME.

DAD WAS NOT MUCH TO SAY MUCH, BUT I KNEW HE LOVED ME.
I COULD TELL.

YOU SEE, I KNEW FROM THE START I WAS
SIMPLY GOING TO BE A BLESSING TO MY FAMILY.

INTERESTING HOW PEOPLE'S LIVES
GET COMPLICATED
WHEN A LITTLE
BABY
IS ON THE WAY.

HERE WAS MY MOTHER VIDA MAY WITH HER FATHER FOREST RAYMOND CARPENTER.    SHE HAD RED HAIR.    HER MOTHER HAD RED HAIR.   HER GRANDFATHER LUTHER WILBUR BREWER HAD RED HAIR.  AND SO NOW HERE I AM, MAKING MY ENTRANCE INTO THE FAMILY WITH MY AUBURN RED HAIR.

Here is the town of Adams, Massachusetts, about the turn of the century in 1900.     My mother was of English stock, her mother and father both related to the Rehoboth Colony of those that came over on the Mayflower in 1622.

My mother's father, Forrest Raymond Carpenter, worked on his father's farm.  Located in Cheshire Massachusetts, he helped peddle milk to the folk in the area, as well as all the things they grew and produced on the farm.

I HAVE 14 DIARIES OF THE DAYS IN WHICH THE FARM WAS ALIVE AND WELL.

From 1886 to 1924 I have transcribed the records they made of their life around the farm.  Amazing that I have these.

THIS HOME WAS THE HOME OF SUSAN B. ANTHONY,   located in Adams Massachusetts - She was born and lived in Adams, even as I did.    The Adams Memorial Hospital still exists.

My mother's mother was not from the Berkshires, rather she was from
Exeter, New Hampshire - and was blessed with the York Beach home that her Mother and Father had
there on the bay.

Here is a photo of the York Beach or of the Eastham
Beach in Cape Cod.     My great grandfather Luther Wilbur Brewer and his wife Vida May (Ingalls) Brewer were settled here.  My great grandfather was a Leather Tanner - working on the gear that people needed for their horses and the carriages, as well as for the machinery that was used on the farm.

I have so much to share.   Walk with me in my Blog, and discover something of what I believe is a sense of strong FAITH and quiet determined convictions within the souls of these dear folk.

HERE ARE MY GREAT GRANDFATHER AND HIS WIFE, WITH THEIR CROQUET MALLETS.    LIFE WAS HARD, BUT THEY DID ENJOY GAMES ON THE LAWN.

This is their home on York Beach Maine where all the rich and famous go to resort now.   They had a clan of about 14 families that all owned cottages there where now they are all rentals for tourists who come to York Beach.      Bampy was a darling man, who knew how to laugh, was a hard worker, but could enjoy a day with his family.    My grandmother Lillias May Brewer had one sister
whose name was Flossie.

Grandmother went to college - it was a Ladies' college for teachers - and she taught at PRIMARY SCHOOL FOR THREE YEARS....and that is another story.  Watch for my next blog.
You might see some interesting things.

Jesus declared that He was the Light of the World.   My great grandfather on both sides of the family were strong believers in God's Word.     They were not perfect.   They knew it.   The families they founded benefited from their faith.   I treasure this.    God bless you and give you a sense of His Love and may you dig into God's Word the Holy Bible to discover that same faith.

HERE ARE THREE SISTERS -
VISITING THEIR GRANDMOTHER AT YORK BEACH MAINE
VIDA MAY,  ESTHER AND ALTHEA CARPENTER.

IT WAS SO LONG AGO.  BUT SO DEAR TO MY HEART IS THE OCEAN,
AND THESE THREE LADIES.   MY MOTHER'S SISTERS
WERE LIKE BIG SISTERS TO ME.   WHEN I WAS IN BORN IN 1933  BECAUSE I WAS THE FIRST GREAT GRAND CHILD, AND THE FIRST GRAND CHILD, HOW SPOILED COULD I GET.   THEY DOTED ON ME.   I DO NOT EVER REMEMBER ANYTHING EXCEPT LOVE
AND CONSIDERATION.

MR AND MRS LUTHER WILBUR BREWER AT THEIR 50TH ANNIVERSARY
IN 1933.     MY MOTHER WAS NOT THERE, BUT SHE TOOK ME TO SEE THEM IN 1936.

HERE I AM AT MY

JESUS AND SPIRITUAL BIRTH

YE MUST BE BORN AGAIN

                                                                        By  June Estelle Cash
                                                 BIBLEBUFFJOURNAL-BIBLELADY99CASH

JESUS WAS BUSY.   IT WAS THE BEGINNING OF HIS MINISTRY.

Jesus had been busy, proclaiming who He was,
and telling everyone that He was from the Father.

He even entered into the Temple,  and sent out

all the buyers and sellers with their animals.

"Take these things hence, make not my Father's

 house an house of merchandise."
[John chapter 2.16].   It was Passover time.

 And Nicodemus came at night.

The day had been filled with questions.  What sign will you give us? the leaders asked him ?hen they said,  "Forty and six years this temple was in building, and you will rear it up in three days?"   They had no clue as to what he was saying.
John chapter 2.21 to 23 tells us :  " But he spake of the temple of his body.  When therefore he was risen from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this unto them, and they believed the scripture, and the word which Jesus had said."
So in the evening, when no one would know that he came,  Nicodemus came to inquire of Jesus.    A man of the Pharisees, he was a "ruler of the Jews".    A person of known leadership, yet he came that night.    "Rabbi,  we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him."
Are you a master of Israel and knowes
 t not these things?
Nicodemus was one of those who were LOOKING for the KINGDOM OF GOD.   And here now, Jesus, Y'SHUA, was telling him that he must be born into that kingdom.   He is listening.   He had seen Jesus cast out the merchants from the temple along with the animals.   Then he had sat and taught in the Temple.  He must have questions running through his mind.   He is distraught, because he knows the other Pharisees do not like Y'SHUA at all.   They are very determined to find his weakness, and to criticize.    Not Nicodemus.   He came, seeking.
Nicodemus would understand what he was saying about Moses and the serpent being raised in the wilderness.    The account is told in Numbers 21 that the people were again complaining and murmuring that "there was no bread, and no water"  even though they were receiving MANNA from heaven as needed, and even though God told Moses to strike the rock for water.    So God sent serpents among the people and they were being bitten by these.   Many died.   God told Moses to make a serpent of BRASS - which speaks of JUDGMENT - up on a pole.   So he did.
It never records what Nicodemus did.    I would like to think he did find Christ.   Scripture does not speak on this.    I do however, wish to say, that I know I have come into the family of those who are BORN AGAIN.   I found that reading God's Word watered my soul with living water and refreshing life because the Good News of God's love has opened my life to God, and I believed that Jesus is just who He says He is, and that He has become my Savior.    I am thankful that Jesus came to give us LIFE ETERNAL, LIFE EVERLASTING, and that He has given me His Spirit to live inside me that I may find Hope and Strength and Joy in my life.   His Spirit living in me is the way God has sealed me for Himself, that someday I will be with Him forever.

Jesus  replies "Verily, Verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again,he cannot see the Kingdom of God."
[John 3.3]. Responding,  Nicodemus asks "How can a man be born when he is old?  can he enter the second time into his mother's womb and be born?"   Jesus replies, "Verily, Verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and
of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the Kingdom of God."
[John 3.5]  He goes on to say "that which is born of the
flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.    Marvel not that I say unto you, Ye must be born again.
The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the
sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is everyone that is born of the Spirit.  [John 3.4 - 8].
Nicodemus answered and said unto him, "How can these things be?"
My heart fills with love for the Lord Jesus Christ as I continue on in the record of what He said to Nicodemus.    He knew Who He was, What He had come to do, and What was Needed for us to know Him.   He made it very plain.
Jesus responds to Nicodemus with these words:
Verily, Verily I say unto thee, we speak that we do know,
and testify that we have seen; and ye receive not our
witness.    If I have told  you earthly things,
and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I
tell you of heavenly things? [John ch. 3.10,11, 12].

Then Jesus continues,  And no man hath
ascended up to heaven, but he that came
down from heaven, even the Son of man which is
 in heaven.   And as Moses
lifted up the serpent in the wilderness,
even so must the Son of man be lifted up, that
whosoever believeth in him should not perish but
have eternal life.  FOR GOD SO LOVED THE
WORLD THAT HE GAVE HIS ONLY BEGOTTEN SON THAT WHOSOEVER BELIEVETH IN HIM
SHOULD NOT PERISH, BUT HAVE EVERLASTING LIFE.
For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through him might be
saved.   He that believeth on him is not condemned;
but he that believeth not is condemned already,
because he hath not believed in the name of the only
begotten Son of God."   [John 3.13 - 18]

So Jesus spoke, telling Nicodemus out plain
what he wanted to know.   Nicodemus is just like us.
We hear a lot about the Bible,  about religion, about what some people believe either for or against Jesus.  Now
here Nicodemus knew a lot was at stake.  His people had been looking for Messiah, and the expectancy was great.   A great longing for a return of THE KING to set
up his kingdom.  Everyone knew WHO JESUS WAS.    THEY KNEW his lineage.   It was recorded in the Temple.   They knew of him as the Rightful Heir of the line of David.   They knew that this might be MESSIAH.  But they did not like what he was telling them.   They were looking for S I G N S  but He was telling them, He was
the Messiah and that He was from Heaven, and would go back to Heaven.  And that Life came from believing in Him.
Jesus went on to say 'And this is the condemnation that Light is come into the world and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
For everyone that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest their deed should be reproved.     But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be manifest, that they are wrought in God."     [John 3.19 21].

They were told to LOOK AT THE SERPENT - AND THEY WOULD BE HEALED.

Nicodemus knew that the sin was represented
by the serpent on the cross. Now here is Y'shua telling
him that only by being born into the family can he see
the Kingdom of God, and furthermore, that He,
Y'shua would be lifted up just as the serpent was.
The Cross was why Jesus, Y'shua, came.
He came to be our once and for PASSOVER LAMB to bear our sins on the Cross of Golgotha. He came knowing what he had come to do was the only way
for us to be born of the Spirit.

WHEN TROUBLES ASSAIL - BIBLEBUFFJOURNAL99 -

Monday November 13,2017

WHEN TROUBLES ASSAIL

THIS WAS MY FAMILY WHEN WE WENT THROUGH SOME HARD TIMES -  IT WAS BLOSSOM DAY IN HOOD RIVER OR AND SO WE WENT TO SEE THE BLOSSOMS.
IT IS ALWAYS GOOD "TO MAKE TIME" FOR FAMILY.   IT HELPS GET THROUGH TROUBLE, AND GIVES JOY MIXED WITH THE TEARS OF DIFFICULTIES THAT COME OUR WAY.

When troubles assail, most mountain climbers quit.    The question is, is it harder to go back to where I came from, or easier just to keep going? comes to most climbers.

Getting groceries, we were very happy to be together,
and Daddy would always "reward" the children by
taking them to "eat out" afterwards.   Here we are
with Becki and Rachel .    I think Ruth took the picture.
In the Christian life, the Spirit is the One who leads and guides the Believer on the road of Life for He always will uplift the Savior in the Believer, and glorify the Father in Heaven.   The glorious Elohim is the Strong One - the ONE who is A PLURAL NOUN THAT USES A SINGULAR VERB.   People eats is an example of a plural noun with a singular verb.  God ris called ELOHIM.   God the Son is called the Creator and the One who made all things.  John chapter 1.1 - 3
Genesis 1.1 tells us that  IN THE BEGINNING GOD CREATED THE HEAVENS AND THE EARTH.   It does not argue it.   It only presents God as BEING the STRONG ONE who created all things.   In chapter 1 of Genesis in verse 26 and 27 we see that God created man in His image - "Let us make man in our image"   "In the image of God created He him."
Let us remember that the very one who put us here is the One who loves us and cares for us, and longs to share our life with us.    When troubles assail, and the heart is weary, let each of us turn to the Lord in our need, and let Him direct our way, comfort our hearts, and renew our strength.
Philippians 4.13  "I can do all things through Christ who is my strength."   The same One who began all things is the very One who wants to give me overcoming power over troubles and fears, over difficulties and obstacles.   He will strengthen us.
