AT CHRIST'S BIRTH 

Onward, Christian Soldiers!

TEXT
Ephesians Chapter 6: v. 10 - 18 

10. Be strong in the Lord, 

and in the power

of His might. 

11. Put on the whole armor

of God, that ye

may be able 

to stand against 

the wiles of the devil.

12. For we wrestle not  

against flesh and blood, 

but against powers,, 

against the rulers

of this world, 

against spiritual

wickedness

in high places.

13. Wherefore take unto you

the whole armor

of God, 

that ye may be able

to withstand in the evil day, 

and having done all,

to stand.

14.  Stand therefore, 

having your loins girt about

with truth, and having

on the breastplate

of righteousness:

15.  And your feet shod with 

the preparation 

of the gospel of peace;

16.  Above all, taking 

the shield of faith, wherewith

ye shall be able to quench

all the fiery darts of 

the wicked.

17. And take the helmet

of salvation, and

the sword of the Spirit, 

which is 

the word of God. 

18. Praying always with all

prayer and supplication

in the Spirit, and watching

thereunto with all

perseverance 

and supplication for all saints.

The Church no longer exists, 

but the memory is

Christians 

who must give out 

the Good News 

The Gospel of Christ

that He came to save 

Sinners, 

not the righteous,

and that in His 

Power and in 

His 

Authority 

we are to go forward

as SOLDIERS.

When we become His, and are saved, 

we are immediately thrust 

into a spiritual

battle.

Where before, we

had only 

one nature, sin, and

no power 

to break away from that.

When we become a 

Son of God,  that 

changed 

for ever.

For ever only 

has to be once 

said, for 

it is 

for ever.

Joshua 1. 8 

This book of the law 

shall not depart

out of thy mouth;

but thou shalt 

meditate therein

day and night, 

that thou mayest 

observe 

to do according to all

that is written therein: 

for then thou

shalt be 

pr0sperous.

Jesus told the disciples

Christians Soldier

need to know these

facts which 

the Bible gives us.

I.  WE NEED TO KNOW 

OUR COMMANDER.

*We are to personally know our
commanding officer. 
*We are to receive our orders from
Him, and no one else. 
*We are to exactly do what he 
commands.

II Timothy 2.3 -4

Thou therefore endure 
hardness, as a good soldier
of Jesus Christ. No man that 
warreth entangleth himself 
with the affairs of this life,
that he may please
him who hath chosen him
to be a soldier.

Philippians 3.10 - 11

That I may know Him
and the power of His 
resurrection, and the 
fellowship of His 
sufferings, being made 
conformable unto 
His death; if by
any means I might also
attain unto the 
resurrection 
of the dead. 

I John 5. 10 - 13

II.  WE OUGHT TO KNOW

THE ENEMIES.

*Our primary enemy is: 

*the world 

*the flesh

*the devil 

I John 2. 15,16

15.  Love not the world, neither
the things that are 
in the world. If any
man love the world,
the love of the Father
is not in him.  
16. For all that is in 
the world, 
the list of the flesh,
and the list of 
the eyes,
and the pride
of life, is
not of the 
Father, but is 
of the world.

Romans 8.8 

So then they that are in

the flesh cannot please God.

Ephesians 2.3

Among whom also we all
has our conversation in
times past in the lusts
of our flesh, 
fulfilling the desire of 
the flesh and of the mind;
and were by
nature
the children of wrath,
even as others.

I Thessalonians 2.18

Wherefore we would

have come unto you, 

even I, Paul, once 

and again; but

Satan hindered us. 

*Other enemies Believers may

have to fight are: 

*Ignorance 

*Selfishness -need for

cooperation and teamwork

*Pride - basic sin .

*Doubt

*Fear - afraid of the unknown

II Timothy 2.15 

Study to shew thyself approved

For God has not give us 
the Spirit of fear;
but of

We love Him, because He first loved us. 

III.  WE ARE TO KNOW

HOW TO RECRUIT SOLDIERS,  

*We are to seek to reach out 

to others with the 

Gospel of Christ.

*We are to give each 

person a responsiblity

to keep him busy.  

John 12.26 
If any man serve me, 

let him follow Me, and 
where I am, there shall
also my servant be: 
if any serve me, him
will my Father honour.  

IV.  WE ARE TO KNOW HOW 

TO TRAIN OUR SOLDIERS.

*We each need to be trained in a 
practical knowledge of the Bible.
*We must know how to use
God's Word in leading
another person to Christ.
*We must know how to use
God's Word to help others 
as well as ourselves in
overcoming 
difficulties.

II Timothy 2. 15 

Study to shew thyself approved

unto God, a workman

that needeth not

to be ashamed, 

rightly

dividing 

the word of truth. 

II Timothy 3.16, 17 

All scripture is given 

by inspiration of God, 

and is 

profitable 

for doctrine, 

for correction,

for instruction

in righteousness: 

that the man of 

God may be perfect,

throughly furnished

unto all good

works. 

Romans 10.17 

Faith cometh by 
hearing, 
and hearing 
by the word of God.

V.  WE MUST KNOW HOW TO PLAN

 FOR INVASION.

*Our conduct must be pleasing 

unto the Lord.

*We must be faithful and steadfast 

with our purpose and 

objective in mind. 

*we must not be terrified  or

upset by our adversaries.

*Look forward . 

Press on.  Keep on keeping on.

Do not give out, give in, or give up.

Philippians 1.27 - 30  

v.27. Only let your conversation

be as it becometh the 

Gospel of Christ: 

that whether I come

and see you, 

or else be absent,

I may hear of your affairs,

that ye stand fast

in one spirit,

with one

mind

striving together

for the 

faith of the gospel. 

v.28.   And in nothing

terrified by your

adversaries:

which to them 

is an evident

token of perdition,

but to you

of salvation,

and that of God. 

v.29.  For unto you it

is given in the behalf

of Christ, not

only to believe on him,

but also to 

suffer for His sake;

conflict which ye

saw in me and

now hear to 

be in me. 

Philippians 3. 12 - 14

THE ARMOR OF GOD AND THE SPIRITUAL BATTLE

                           ON MY PILGRIM JOURNEY - WHAT I MUST WEAR

                         

Here I am with my dear husband Henry and our three daughters

                      Dressed for a cool fall day in 1967.    

We need to consider how we look and what to wear on our spiritual JOURNEY.

EPHESIANS CHAPTER 6 lays it out for us as the Apostle Paul writes to the Church at Ephesus.

EPHESIANS CHAPTER 6. 10 - 20

      Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord,

 and in the power of his might. 

 Put on the whole armour of God, 

that ye may be able to stand

 against the wiles of the devil. 

For we wrestle 

not against flesh and blood, 

but against principalities, against powers, 

against the rulers of the darkness of this world, 

against spiritual wickedness in high places. 

  Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, 

that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, 

and having done all to stand. 

 Stand therefore,

 to make known the mystery of the gospels, 

for which I am an ambassador in bonds 

 that therein I may speak boldly, 

as I ought to speak."  

                      

FIRST, LET US THINK 

ABOUT HOW IT IS 

                                                 THAT I AM DRESSED

 IN THE RIGHTEOUSNESS 

OF JESUS CHRIST

 HIMSELF.

       NOW THAT I AM A BELIEVER WITH FAITH THAT GOD PAID 

THE PRICE OF MY SIN NATURE UPON THE CROSS, AND THAT 

IN POSITION I HAVE ALL THE RIGHTS OF A SON GIVEN TO ME, I

NOW CAN THINK IN TERMS OF WHAT I NEED TO WEAR THAT ADORNS

AND AFFIRMS THE LIFE WHICH I NOW HAVE IN JESUS CHRIST.     

    

                    FOR TO ME TO LIVE IS CHRIST, AND TO DIE IS GAIN. 

                                  Philippians 1.21     

                    AND YOU HATH HE QUICKENED , WHO WERE DEAD IN 

                     TRESPASSES AND SINS, WHEREIN IN TIME PAST YE 

                      WALKED, ACCORDING TO THE COURSE OF THIS WORLD,

                       ACCORDING TO THE PRINCE OF THE POWER OF THE AIR,

                     THE SPIRIT THAT NOW WORKS IN THE CHILDREN OF

                     DISOBEDIENCE; AMONG WHOM ALSO WE ALL HAD OUR

                   CONVERSATION  IN TIME PAST..."    

                               Ephesians  2.1 - 3    

                                                     

FIRST OF ALL WE ARE 

TO BE STRONG IN THE LORD

                      AND IN THE POWER OF HIS MIGHT.

THE ARMOR IS GIVEN US BY GOD.

WE ARE HIS PEOPLE NOW.

                                        AS SURE AS ASTERS BLUE GREW WHEN I

                                       PUT THEM IN THE GROUND, SO TOO WE ARE

                                      PLANTED BY THE LORD TO GROW UP.

 YE ARE ALL 

                                     THE CHILDREN OF GOD 

                                                          BY FAITH IN CHRIST JESUS.    

                          Galatians 3.26 

JUST AS THESE LITTLE FLOWERS BLOOM SO TOO,

WE ARE TO BE DRESSED IN THE GLORY GOD GIVES

US.   HE HAS GIVEN US  'OUR SPIRITUAL ARMOR' 

   HERE THEY ARE :   LET US LOOK AT EACH PIECE.

        1.      THE BELT OF TRUTH.

         THIS  HAS TO BE PLACE AROUND OUR LOINS,

          IT IS THE PIECE THAT HOLDS EVERYTHING IN PLACE.   

          THE TRUTH AS WE KNOW IT IN GOD'S WORD IS 

          THE ESSENTIAL PIECE OF OUR CLOTHING. 

                           Psalm 119.105     THY WORD IS A LAMP

                        UNTO MY FEET AND A LIGHT UNTO MY PATH.

        2.        THE BREASTPLATE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS.

              THIS HAS TO BE PLACED OVER THE HEART.  

               WE MUST PLACE THIS OVER OUR HEART, AND KEEP 

               IT SECURELY HELD CLOSE TO MYSELF THAT EVEN

             AS I RECEIVED CHRIST JESUS THE LORD, EVEN SO WILL

              I WALK IN HIM   (Ephesians 2.8 - 10)  "For by grace are ye

                  saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift

               of God, not of works, lest any man should boast; for we are his

              workmanship created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which

            God hath ordained that we should walk in them." 

I JOHN 1.9 

IF WE CONFESS OUR SINS,

HE IS FAITHFUL AND JUST 

TO FORGIVE US OUR SINS, AND

TO CLEANSE US 

FROM ALL UNRIGHTEOUSNESS.

I  JOHN 2.6 

HE THAT SAITH HE ABIDETH

IN HIM

OUGHT HIMSELF

ALSO SO TO WALK,

EVEN AS HE WALKED.

THE PAINTING ABOVE IS WHAT I DREW TO SHOW HOW PATHS ARE 

EVERYWHERE AND ONLY GOD KNOWS THE HEART AND CAN SHOW US 

THE WAY TO GO.    IT IS IMPORTANT TO HIDE GOD'S WORD IN OUR 

HEART, TO KEEP OUR HEART CLEAN OF ANY KNOWN SIN, AND TO WALK

FULLY DRESSED IN HIS CLEANNESS AND PURITY.    AS WE WALK CLOSE 

TO JESUS, AND ABIDE IN HIM, HE SHOWS US AND CORRECTS AS WE GO, 

AND KEEPS US ON THE RIGHT PATH.

              

                   THE PAINTING ABOVE ALSO SHOWS US HOW DISTRACTED WE

                   CAN GET WITHOUT STAYING CLOSE TO HIM WHO IS THE ONE 

                     TO WHOM WE BELONG.   

                                 3.   FEET SHOD WITH THE 

PREPARATION

 OF THE GOSPEL OF PEACE.    

                       MY SHOE ARE THE PREPARATION I MAKE TO PRESENT 

                      THE GOSPEL OF PEACE.     JESUS SAID,   "I AM THE WAY,

                      THE TRUTH, AND THE LIFE, NO MAN COMETH UNTO THE

                      FATHER, BUT BY ME."  JOHN 14.6    

                      MY SHOES ARE WHAT GOD GIVES TO KNOW I AM A BEARER

                     OF HIS LOVE, HIS LIGHT, AND THAT NO MATTER WHAT ELSE,

                       I AM PURPOSED TO BE HIS VESSEL - THE CANDLELIGHT IN 

                      THE DARKNESS THAT JUST AS GOD IS MY LIGHT IN THE 

                     DARKNESS SO TOO I CAN SHINE FOR HIM AND BEAR LIGHT

                     IT IS THE WHOLE BEING OF A PERSON THAT GUIDES THE FEET.

            

                                        JOHN 8.12    THEN SPAKE JESUS AGAIN 

                                          SAYING, I AM THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD,

                                           HE THAT FOLLOWETH ME SHALL NOT WALK

                                         IN DARKNESS, BUT SHALL HAVE THE LIGHT

                                                OF LIFE. 

       

AS JOSEPH AND MARY TRAVELED TO BETHLEHEM,

                SO TOO, WE TRAVEL TODAY BY FAITH

                       WHEN CIRCUMSTANCES CHANGE, OR GOVERNMENTS TOPPLE,

                     OR LIFE SEEMS FRUSTRATING, THE TRUTH OF GOD'S WORD 

                        REMAINS.     WE ARE, AS JOSEPH AND MARY, RECEIVERS

                         OF THE LIGHT.     JESUS WAS THE LIGHT OF LIFE.   WHEN

                         HE CAME, HE CAME THE  FIRST TIME TO BE OUR KINSMAN

                          REDEEMER.

                         SAVIOR    REDEEMER    DELIVERER  LIGHT 

                                  HIS MESSAGE OF PEACE IS THE ONLY ONE WE BRING. 

           4   THE SHIELD  -  OUR DEFENSE IS FAITH.

                         

                          ROMANS 10.17  NOW FAITH COMETH

                                                             BY HEARING,

                           AND HEARING 

                                                            BY THE WORD OF GOD.

AT AGE FIVE I ENJOYED A FEW DAYS IN

MARTHA'S VINEYARD, MASS.

IT WAS PART OF CAPE COD

AND THE BEACH AREA.

GOD GAVE ME HOPE AS A CHILD

BUT 

EVEN MORE

HE GAVE ME 

PROTECTION

UNTIL I CAME TO KNOW HIM

AS MY LORD 

AND SAVIOR.

NOW I ASK YOU 

WHAT PROTECTION WILL YOU WEAR?

FOR THE JOURNEY OF LIFE

AND AS YOU ARRIVE AT THE PORT

OF ETERNITY ? 

ARE YOU READY ?

ARE YOU PROTECTED

WITH THE SHIELD OF FAITH ?

THE PATH WE TAKE

MAY BE HARD.

THE WAY

MAY BE ROUGH.

BUT WITH THE SHIELD OF FAITH

OUR HEART WILL BE

EVEN MORE PROTECTED.

                  5.    THE SWORD OF THE SPIRIT - 

                        OUR OFFENSIVE WEAPON TO FIGHT 

              THE UNSEEN REALITIES OF EVIL,

               THE UNSEEN INNER BATTLES OF OUR SPIRIT

           CAN ONLY BE WON BY THE WORD OF GOD 

                                       MATTHEW 4.4  [JESUS, SPEAKING TO SATAN] HE 

                      ANSWERED AND SAID, IT IS WRITTEN, MAN SHALL NOT LIVE

                       BY BREAD ALONE, BUT BY EVERY WORD THAT PROCEEDETH

                       OUT OF THE MOUTH OF GOD."   

                                       ROMANS 12.2 AND BE NOT CONFORMED TO THIS 

                     WORLD, BUT BE YE TRANSFORMED BY THE RENEWING OF

                    YOUR MIND, THAT YE MAY PROVE WHAT IS THAT GOOD 

                    AND ACCEPTABLE, AND PERFECT WILL OF GOD.   

                                        

TEN YEARS OLD, IN NORTH ADAMS MASSACHUSETTS,

HERE I AM, WHEN MY GRANDFATHER TOOK A 

PHOTO OF ME IN FRONT OF MY HOME AFTER

HE HAD VISITED US.   I RECEIVED CHRIST

AS MY SAVIOR THAT FALL, BEFORE THIS SNOW

CAME ON THE GROUND.  PEOPLE AND PEOPLE

AND MORE PEOPLE LIVED ALL AROUND

ME.   IN THE SECTION YOU SEE JUST

BACK OF ME, 17 PEOPLE LIVED IN FOUR ROOMS

AND SURVIVED SOMEHOW.   I HAD NO 

IDEA WHO I WOULD BE,

NOR WHERE I WOULD GO

BUT GOD KNEW.

AND HE KNOWS JUST 

WHAT YOU NEED RIGHT NOW.

WHY ? NOT TRUST HIM

TO LET HIS SPIRIT 

BEAR WITNESS TO YOUR 

SPIRIT 

THAT YOU 

INDEED

CAN 

BE 

HIS 

CHILD.

I NEVER HAVE REGRETED THIS.

GOD HAS BROUGHT ME ALL THE WAY.

IN SPITE OF ME

HIS UNDESERVED FAVOR - HIS GRACE - 

HAS SHOWN 

ME AND KEPT ME AND HELD

ME 

IN THE HOLLOW OF HIS HANDS.

HE IS INDEED THE SHEPHERD OF THE SHEEP.

I WAS JUST A LOST LAMB WHO NEEDED 

SOMEONE TO LOVE ME,

TO CARE FOR ME,

AND TO LEAD ME

AND HE DID JUST THAT ! 

JOHN 3.16 

IS STILL TRUE TODAY.

HE IS WAITING

FOR YOU

TO CALL ON HIS NAME.

FOR GOD SO LOVED THE WORLD

THAT HE GAVE HIS ONLY BEGOTTEN SON

THAT WHOSOEVER BELIEVETH IN 

HIM

SHOULD NOT PERISH,

BUT HAVE EVERLASTING LIFE.

JESUS SAID THIS OF HIMSELF.

START YOUR JOURNEY TODAY.

BECOME A CHILD OF GOD BY FAITH IN CHRIST JESUS,

AND 

PLACE YOURSELF IN HIS CARE,

AND WALK WITH THE ARMOUR OF HIS PROVISION

ONLY WITH THESE CAN YOU FIND

VICTORY 

OVER

SIN, DEATH, TEMPTATION AND HELL.

ONLY WITH

THE SWORD OF THE SPIRIT

CAN YOUR FAITH GROW.

WE MUST EXCERCISE

THE 

MUSTARD SEED OF 

FAITH

THAT GOD HAS GIVEN US.

FOR YOU SEE,

EVEN THE FAITH I HAVE

IS NOT 

SOMETHING I EARNED

IT IS A GIFT.

EVEN THE FAITH I HAVE

CAME FROM HIM,

NOT ME

SO 

I 

DO NOT GET

ANY CREDIT.

IT ALL IS THE GLORY TO GOD.

HE IS THE SAVIOR. 

IT IS HE WHO ALONE CAN SAVE.

Just as this Mountain looms beyond, 

and the meadows invite one to climb,

so too LIFE HAS ITS UPS 

AND DOWNS

FACE HIM WITH THIS ARMOR

AND HE WILL NOT FAIL YOU.

THE FINAL PIECE OF EQUIPMENT

TO REMEMBER

IS 

THE HELMET

OF 

SALVATION.

BE SURE THAT 

YOU KNOW

YOU 

NEVER 

CAN 

BE UNBORN

ONCE YOU BECOME HIS CHILD.

THIS WAS ME AS A BABY.

I WAS BORN.

WHEN WE COME TO JESUS

AND ASK HIM 

TO BE OUR 

SAVIOR

HE NEVER 

EVER

WILL LET YOU GO.

YOU WILL BELONG TO HIM.

YOU  ARE PART OF HIM NOW.

SO WALK EVEN AS HE DID.

ENJOY.

1.    Therefore being justified by faith we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:
2.    By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
3.    And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience,
4.    And patience, experience, and experience, hope:
5.    And hope maketh not ashamed because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost, which is given unto us.
6.    For, when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.
7.    For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die.
8.    But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
9.    Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.
10.  For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.
11.  And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ by whom we have now received the atonement.

 IN CELEBRATING CHRISTMAS WE EXCHANGE GIFTS IN GIVING AND RECEIVING.  IN THIS MESSAGE, WE SHALL CONSIDER FIVE CHRISTMAS GIFTS THAT GOD WANTS US TO HAVE:
            PROPOSITION:  THAT THE GREATEST GIFT IS JESUS.THESE FIVE WONDERFUL GIFTS ARE FOUND IN ROMANS CHAPTER 5: 1 – 11. 

                                          1.    THE GIFT OF PEACE. 

      ROMANS 5.1  Therefore being justified by faith we have peace with God through our  Lord Jesus Christ.       LUKE 2.13,14  And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

2.    THE GIFT OF HOPE. 

           ROMANS 5.2 – 5.  By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience, experience, and experience, hope. And hope maketh not ashamed because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.
       TITUS 2.13 “Looking for the BLESSED HOPE , and the glorious APPEARING  of the great God and our Savior JESUS CHRIST.

3.     THE GIFT OF LOVE.

        ROMANS 5.5, 8. And hope maketh not ashamed because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us…..But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.    
   John 3.16. For God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.        

4.    THE GIFT OF THE HOLY SPIRIT.

        ROMANS 5.5b. And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.
        John 14.16 – 18. Jesus, speaking told the disciples : “And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; even the Spirit of Truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knowing him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.  I will not leave you comfortless: I will be with you.” 
5.    THE GIFT OF JOY
           ROMANS 5.11  And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ by whom we have now received the atonement.
            John 15.11    These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.           
 CONCLUSION:God has given us these five gifts.  As we look at the Birth of Jesus as a babe in the manger, let us remember that God loves us, and loves us unconditionally. 
I John 4.19   We love him, because He first loved us.           Thank God for His Gifts to us of Peace, Hope, Love, the Holy Spirit (the Holy Ghost) and Joy. 

            Christmas begins in the heart.  It is not dependent upon “December 25” but it begins when I believe that God sent his Son for me, and that His Son came in love to show the Father’s love to me.

             John 1.12 As many as received him,

to them gave he power to become the sons of God,

 even to them that believe on his name: 

John 1.13. which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh,

 nor of the will of man, but of God. And the Word was made flesh 

and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, 

the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,)

 full of grace and truth.

             I John 5.11  He that hath the Son hath life; 

and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.

             John 5.24.   Jesus declared “Verily, verily, I say unto you,

 he that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath

 everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation;

but is passed from death unto life.

 

             I John 5.11  He that hath the Son hath life; 

and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.

             John 5.24.   Jesus declared “Verily, verily, I say unto you,
