AT CHRIST'S BIRTH - Sermon "ONWARD CHRISTIAN SOLDIERS" Sermon by W. H. Cash Jr (1927 - 2012) LILACLADY JUNEBUG2 - Walking By Faith-I Keep Climbing

AT CHRIST'S BIRTH

Onward, Christian Soldiers!

TEXT
Ephesians Chapter 6: v. 10 - 18

10. Be strong in the Lord,

and in the power

of His might.

11. Put on the whole armor

of God, that ye

may be able

to stand against

the wiles of the devil.

12. For we wrestle not

against flesh and blood,

but against powers,,

against the rulers

of this world,

against spiritual

wickedness

in high places.

13. Wherefore take unto you

the whole armor

of God,

that ye may be able

to withstand in the evil day,

and having done all,

to stand.

14.  Stand therefore,

having your loins girt about

with truth, and having

on the breastplate

of righteousness:

15.  And your feet shod with

the preparation

of the gospel of peace;

16.  Above all, taking

the shield of faith, wherewith

ye shall be able to quench

all the fiery darts of

the wicked.

17. And take the helmet

of salvation, and

the sword of the Spirit,

which is

the word of God.

18. Praying always with all

prayer and supplication

in the Spirit, and watching

thereunto with all

perseverance

and supplication for all saints.

The Church no longer exists,

but the memory is

bright and clear

that it is

Christians

who must give out

the Good News

The Gospel of Christ

that He came to save

Sinners,

not the righteous,

and that in His

Power and in

His

Authority

we are to go forward

as SOLDIERS.

When we become His, and are saved,

we are immediately thrust

into a spiritual

battle.

Where before, we

had only

one nature, sin, and

no power

to break away from that.

When we become a

Son of God,  that

changed

for ever.

For ever only

has to be once

said, for

it is

for ever.

Joshua 1. 8

This book of the law

shall not depart

out of thy mouth;

but thou shalt

meditate therein

day and night,

that thou mayest

observe

to do according to all

that is written therein:

for then thou

shalt be

pr0sperous.

Joshua 1. 8

Jesus told the disciples

"He that believeth in me,

the works that I do

shall he do also;

because I go into my Father.

John 14. 12

Christians Soldier

need to know these

facts which

the Bible gives us.

I.  WE NEED TO KNOW

OUR COMMANDER.

*We are to personally know our
commanding officer.
*We are to receive our orders from
Him, and no one else.
*We are to exactly do what he
commands.

II Timothy 2.3 -4

Thou therefore endure
hardness, as a good soldier
of Jesus Christ. No man that
warreth entangleth himself
with the affairs of this life,
that he may please
him who hath chosen him
to be a soldier.

Philippians 3.10 - 11

That I may know Him
and the power of His
resurrection, and the
fellowship of His
sufferings, being made
conformable unto
His death; if by
any means I might also
attain unto the
resurrection
of the dead.

I John 5. 10 - 13

10. He that believeth on the
Son of God hath the
witness in himself: he that
believeth not God hath
made him a liar;
because he believeth not
the record that God
gave of his Son.
11. And this is the record,
that God hath given to us
eternal life, and
this life is in
His Son.
12. He that hath the Son
hath life; and
he that hath not the
Son of God
hath not life.
13. These things have I
written unto you that
believe on
the name of the
Son of God,
that ye may
know that ye have
eternal life,
and that ye may
believe
on the name of
the Son of God.

Psalm 27.8

When thou saidest, seek
ye my face; my
heart said unto thee,,
Thy face, O Lord,, will I
seek.

 Psalm 63. 1

O God: Thou art my God;
early will I seek Thee:
my soul thirsteth for thee.

I Timothy 6.12

Fight the good fight
of faith, lay hold on
eternal life: whereunto thou
art also called, and
hast professed a good
profession before
many witnesses.

Paul declared in his
letter to Timothy:
II Timothy 4.7

I have fought a good fight,
I have finished
my course,
I have kept the faith.

Jeremiah 7.23

But this thing I
commanded them,
saying,
Obey my voice,
and I will be your God,
and  you
shall be my people:
and ye shall walk ye in
all the ways that
I have commanded you,
that it may be well unto you.

Acts 5.29

Then Peter and the other
apostles answered and
said, We
ought to obey God
rather
than men.

II.  WE OUGHT TO KNOW
THE ENEMIES.

*Our primary enemy is:
*the world
*the flesh
*the devil

I John 2. 15,16

15.  Love not the world, neither
the things that are
in the world. If any
man love the world,
the love of the Father
is not in him.
16. For all that is in
the world,
the list of the flesh,
and the list of
the eyes,
and the pride
of life, is
not of the
Father, but is
of the world.

Romans 8.8

So then they that are in
the flesh cannot please God.

Ephesians 2.3

Among whom also we all
has our conversation in
times past in the lusts
of our flesh,
fulfilling the desire of
the flesh and of the mind;
and were by
nature
the children of wrath,
even as others.

I Thessalonians 2.18
Wherefore we would
have come unto you,
even I, Paul, once
and again; but
Satan hindered us.

*Other enemies Believers may
have to fight are:
*Ignorance
*Selfishness -need for
cooperation and teamwork
*Pride - basic sin .
*Doubt
*Fear - afraid of the unknown

II Timothy 2.15

Study to shew thyself approved
unto God, a workman
that needeth not
to be ashamed,
rightly
dividing
the word of truth.

II Timothy 1.6

For God has not give us
the Spirit of fear;
but of
power, and of
love,
and of a sound
mind.

I John 4.18

There is no fear in love;
but perfect love
casteth out
fear:
because fear
hath
torment. He
that feareth is
not made perfect
in love.

I John 4.19

We love Him, because He first loved us.

III.  WE ARE TO KNOW
HOW TO RECRUIT SOLDIERS,

*We are to seek to reach out
to others with the
Gospel of Christ.
*We are to give each
person a responsiblity
to keep him busy.

John 12.26
If any man serve me,

let him follow Me, and
where I am, there shall
also my servant be:
if any serve me, him
will my Father honour.

IV.  WE ARE TO KNOW HOW
TO TRAIN OUR SOLDIERS.

*We each need to be trained in a
practical knowledge of the Bible.
*We must know how to use
God's Word in leading
another person to Christ.
*We must know how to use
God's Word to help others
as well as ourselves in
overcoming
difficulties.

II Timothy 2. 15

Study to shew thyself approved
unto God, a workman
that needeth not
to be ashamed,
rightly
dividing
the word of truth.

II Timothy 3.16, 17

All scripture is given
by inspiration of God,
and is
profitable
for doctrine,
for correction,
for instruction
in righteousness:
that the man of
God may be perfect,
throughly furnished
unto all good
works.

Romans 10.17

Faith cometh by
hearing,
and hearing
by the word of God.

V.  WE MUST KNOW HOW TO PLAN
 FOR INVASION.

*Our conduct must be pleasing
unto the Lord.
*We must be faithful and steadfast
with our purpose and
objective in mind.
*we must not be terrified  or
upset by our adversaries.
*Look forward .
Press on.  Keep on keeping on.
Do not give out, give in, or give up.

Philippians 1.27 - 30

v.27. Only let your conversation
be as it becometh the
Gospel of Christ:
that whether I come
and see you,
or else be absent,
I may hear of your affairs,
that ye stand fast
in one spirit,
with one
mind
striving together
for the
faith of the gospel.
v.28.   And in nothing
terrified by your
adversaries:
which to them
is an evident
token of perdition,
but to you
of salvation,
and that of God.
v.29.  For unto you it
is given in the behalf
of Christ, not
only to believe on him,
but also to
suffer for His sake;
v.30.   Having the same
conflict which ye
saw in me and
now hear to
be in me.

Philippians 3. 12 - 14

v.12. Not as though
I had attained, either
were already
perfect:
but I follow
after,
if that I may
apprehend
that for which
also I am apprehended
of Christ Jesus.
v.13.  Brethren,
I count not myself
to have
apprehended:
but this one thing
I do, forgetting
those things
which are behind
and
reaching forth
unto
those things
which are before,
v.14.  I press
toward the mark
for
the prize
of the high calling
of God
in Christ Jesus.

          TEXT

II Timothy 2: 1 - 26
     Ephesians 4.10 - 18

I.  A CHRISTIAN is FIRST A  S O N.

                                     II Timothy 2. v.1.

                          Thou, therefore,

          my son, be strong

in the grace

     that is  in Christ Jesus.

v.2.  And the things

that thou hast heard of me

      among many witnesses,

     the lsame commit

    thou to faithful men who

       shall be able to

          teach others also.

        A. He is to be strong in grace.

         Hebrews 4.16  Let us therefore

        come boldly unto the throne

of grace that we may obtai

mercy, and find grace to help

          in time of need.

II Peter 3.18  But grow in grace,

and in the knowledge of our

            Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

             To Him be glory both

               now and for ever. Amen.

       B.Grace goes with Sonship,
          The Law goes with service.

John 1.17  For the Law was

         given by Moses,  but grace

and truth came by Jesus Christ.

      C. He is to communicate this grace to others.

        I Timothy 1.18

This charge  I commit unto thee,

          son Timothy,  which went before

          thee,accordin  to the prophecies

           that though mightest war

                       a good warfare.

II. He Is A GOOD SOLDIER.

 II Timothy 2.3,4

         v.3 Thou therefore endure

              hardness as a good soldier

               of Jesus Christ.

            v.4  No man that warreth

                Entagleth himself with the

                  affairs of this life,

that he may please him who hath

chosen him to be a soldier.

          Ephesians 6.10 - 18

               v.10. Finally, my brethren,

             be strong in the Lord,

and in the power of his might.

v.11 Put on the whole armor of God,

that ye may be able to stand

              against the

              wiles of the devil.

             v.12 For we wrestle not

             against flesh and blood,

            but against principalities,

               against powers, against

                the ruler of the darkness

        of this world, against spiritual

           wickedness in high places.

      13. Wherefore take unto you

          the whole armor of God,

that he may be able to withstand

in the evil day, and having

            done all, to stand.

v. 14 Stand, therefore,

  having your loins

 girt with truth,

                and having on the

  breastplate of
righteousness:

v.15  And your feet shod
with the preparation

          of the gospel of peace,

         v.16 Above all, taking the

         shield of faith,

     wherewith ye  shall be

           able to  quench

           all the fiery darts

                  of the wicked.

           v.17 And take the helmet

                         of salvation ,

and the sword of  the Spirit,

which is the Word of God.

                         v.18 Praying

                always with all prayer

               and supplication

             in the Spirit,

             and watching

               thereunto with all

                 perseverance and

                     supplication for all saints

                 A. He is to endure hardness

          II Timothy 4.5  But watch

               thou in all things,

                endure afflictions,

                    do the work of an

               evangelist, make full

                  proof of your ministry.

                  B. He is to avoid worldly

                    entanglements.

              I Corinthians 9. v.26,27

              v,26. And every man

               that striveth

                  for the mastery is

                   temperate in all things.

Now they do it to obtain a

                    corruptible crown,

                    but we an in

v.27. But I keep under my body,

             and bring it

            into subjection: lest that

by any means, when I                                   have  preached to others,

             I myself should be a

         castaway.

           III.  HE IS AN ATHLETE.

II Timothy 2.5 And if a

    man also strive

          for masteries,

                       is he not crowned,

                        except he strive lawfully.

                    A.   He is running in a race,

                     or, striving in a contest.

                    Philippians 3.12 - 14.

                    v.12. Wherefore, my beloved, as

                         ye have always obeyed,

not as in my presence only, but  ,

now much more in my absence,

                            work out your own

                                     salvation

                                      with fear and trembling.

                        v.13 For it is God

                          which worketh in you

both to will and to do

                            of his good pleasure.

                        v.14.  Do all things without

                         murmurings and

                          disputings

                     B. He is to run with patience

looking to Jesus.

           Hebrews 12.1,2.

                     v.1  Wherefore seeing we

also are

                          compassed about

                            with so great

                                 a cloud of witnesses,

                             let us lay aside

       every weight,

                                 and the sin whic

                                            so easily beset us,

                     and let us run

                                  with patience

                                   the race that is set

                            before us,

       v.2  Looking unto

                      Jesus the author

                        and finisher

                                   of our faith, who

for the joy that was set

before him endured the                                         cross, despising

                          the shame,

                        and is set down at

                          the right hand

                                          of the throne of God.

IV. HE IS AN HUSBANDMAN -

                        - A FARMER

                 A.  He must be a partaker of the fruits.

                          II Timothy 2.6  The husbandman

           that laboureth

                                   must be first partaker

                              of the fruits.

             II Timothy 2.7 Consider

     what I say,

                                  and the Lord give thee

                                  understanding

                 in all things.

        Remember

                          that Jesus Christ

                                                    of the seed of David

       was raised

                     from the dead

                                                   according to my gospel.

                          B. He is a tiller of soils,

                              a hard worker.

Galatians 6: 7,8 Be not deceived:

                 God is not mocked:

                                             for whatsoever a man

                            soweth that shall

                                     he also reap.

                 For he that soweth

                to his flesh

                                       shall of the flesh

                                     reap  corruption;

                   but he that soweth

                                to the Spirit shall of

                                 the Spirit

                                               reap everlasting life.

 C. He is willing

                     to endure hardness.

                II Tim. 2.9,10 Wherein

         I suffer trouble,

                               as an evildoer,

                                               even  unto bonds,

                 but the word of God

              is not

                             bound.

               Therefore I endure

                             all things for

                                           the elect's sakes,

that they

                                           may also obtain the

                                         salvation which'

                                                     is in Christ Jesus

                                       with eternal glory.

             Ephesians 6.19,20 And for

                      me, that utterance may

                                       be given unto me,

                            that  I may open my

                      mouth boldly, to make

                           known the mystery

                             of the gospel,

for which

                   I am an ambassador

                                  in  bonds: that therein

                       may speak boldly,

                        as I ought to speak.

V. HE IS A WORKMAN.

                   2 Timothy 2.15   Study

to shew

                             thyself approved

                 unto God,

                                    a workman that

needeth not

                           to be ashamed,

           rightly dividing

                           the word of truth.

               A. He will study that

he will be approved before God.

                  II Peter 1.10   Wherefore

                the rather,

                                               brethren, give diligence

                                to make your calling

                     and election sure:

                     for

              if you do these things

                                       ye shall never fall.

  B. He is a workman who studies

God's Word  knowing it is God's Truth.

Psalm 119.105
They word is a lamp unto
my feet, and a
light

C.  He will rightfully divide God's Word.

      D.  He will shun unnecessary discussion.

II Timothy 2.16   But shun profane

   and vain babblings:

                     for they will increase unto

                      more ungodliness.

       E.  He will be honorable

                 before the Lord.

Titus 2.11 - 13-  For the grace
of God that bringeth
salvation hath
appeared to all men,
teaching us that,
denying ungodliness
and worldly lusts,
we should live
soberly,
righteously,
and godly in
this present world;
Looking for that
blessed hope,
and the glorious
appearing of the great
God and Saviour Jesus Christ.

VI.  THE CHRISTIAN IS A VESSEL

2 Timothy 2.20 - 23.

v.20. But in a great

house there are  not only vessels

of gold and silver but also

              of wood and of earth;

                                     and some to honor,

                 and some to dishonor.

                         v. 21. If a man therefore purge

                            himself from these,

he shall be a vessel unto honor,

                             sanctified, and meet

                                      for the Master's use,

                            and prepared unto every

                                        good work.

                                   22. Flee also youthful lusts:

                                      but follow righteousness,

                                     faith, charity, peace, with them

                       that call of the Lord

                           out of a pure heart.

                                     23. But foolish and unlearned

                    questions

                                   avoid, knowing

                                      that they do gender

                                strifes.

                               A. He will be cleansed, ready

                      for service, separated unto

                                     the Lord.

II Timothy 3.17   That the man

                      of God

                                      may be throughly

                                       furnished

                                                    unto all good works.

                      II Corinthians 6.14 - 18

v.14 Be ye not unequally yoked

                  together

                                       with unbelievers:

                                  for what fellowship

                                   hath righteousness

                                            with unrighteousness?

                        and what communion

                                      hath light with darkness?

                                                          v.15  And what concord hath

                                                           the whole armor of God,

that he may be able to withstand

in the evil day, and having

done all, to stand.  v. 14 Stand,

therefore, having your loins girt about

                                            with truth, and

 having on the

 breastplate of righteousness:

v.15 And your

          feet shod with the preparation

of the gospel of peace,

v.16 Above all, taking the shield of faith,

wherewith ye  shall be able to  quench

  all the fiery darts

 of the wicked.

           v.17 And take the helmet

 of salvation ,

and the sword of  the Spirit,

which is the Word of God.

v.18 Praying

                              always with all prayer

and supplication

 in the Spirit,

                                    and watching

thereunto with all

              perseverance and

                     supplication for all saints.

                       A. He is to endure hardness

II Timothy 4.5  But watch thou in

                      all things, endure afflictions,

do the work of an evangelist,

      make full

               proof of your ministry.

                         B. He is to avoid worldly

                       entanglements.

                   I Corinthians 9. v.26,27

              v,26. And every man

that

                    striveth for the mastery is

                     temperate in all things.

Now they do it to obtain a

                       corruptible crown,

                       but we an incorruptible.

v.27. But I keep under my body,

and bring it

                                       into subjection: lest that

                  by any means, when I

                                        have  preached to others,

             I myself should be a

                   VII.    HE IS AN ATHLETE.

II Timothy 2.5   And if a man also

               strive for masteries, yet

                                    is he not crowned,

                         except he strive lawfully.

                          A.   He is running in a race,

                       or, striving in a contest.

                                   Philippians 3.12 - 14.

                    v.12. Wherefore, my beloved, as

                                    ye have always obeyed,

not as in my presence only, but  ,

now much more in my absence,

work out your own

      salvation

                           with fear and trembling.

v.13 For it is God

                                       which worketh in you

both to will and to do of his good

                          pleasure.

          v.14.  Do all things without

                         murmurings and

                               disputings

                            B. He is to run with patience,

      looking to Jesus.

           Hebrews 12.1,2.

v.1  Wherefore seeing we also are

                                          compassed about

with so great a cloud of witnesses,

let us lay aside every weight,

and the sin which

                                            so easily beset us,

      and let us run

                         with patience

the race that is set before us,

v.2  Looking unto

                       Jesus the author

                        and finisher

                                   of our faith, who

for the joy that was set

                    before him endured the

                                             cross, despising the shame,

                                        and is set down at

                          the right hand

                              of the throne of God.

                             IV. HE IS AN HUSBANDMAN

                        - A FARMER

                                               A.  He must be a partaker

                                          of the fruits.

II Timothy 2.6  The husbandman that

 laboureth

                                   must be first partaker

                              of the fruits.

II Timothy 2.7   Consider what I say,

                                         and the Lord give thee

                          understanding in all things.

 Remember

                    that Jesus Christ

                                                    of the seed of David

                           was raised from the dead

                                according to my gospel.

                          B. He is a tiller of soils,

                              a hard worker.

Galatians 6: 7,8 Be not deceived:

God is not mocked:

                                for whatsoever a man soweth,

                          that shall he also reap.

For he that soweth to his flesh

                     shall of the flesh reap

                                corruption;

                      but he that soweth

                                to the Spirit shall of

                                 the Spirit

  •                                            reap everlasting life.

  •                             C. He is willing

  •                                      to endure hardness. ing

  •                                     II Tim. 2.9,10 Wherein I suffer

  •                                     but the word of God is not

  •                                           bound.

  •                        Therefore I endure

  •                             all things for the elect's sakes,

  • that they

  •                                            may also obtain the

  •                     salvation which'

  •                            is in Christ Jesus

  •                            utterance may be

  •                                    given unto me, that I may

  •                         open my mouth boldly, to

  •                                           make known the mystery

  •                      of the gospel, for which

  •                                            I am an ambassador

  •                                          in bonds: that

  •                               therein I may speak boldly,

  •                                              as I ought to speak.

  •                    to be ashamed, rightly

  •                                             dividing the word of truth.

  •                        A. He will study so that

  •                                      he will be approved before God.
