TEXT : Matthew 28.1 - 7
1. In the end of the sabbath,
as it began to dawn
toward the
first day of the week,
came Mary Magdalene
and the other Mary
to see the sepulchre.
2. And behold, there
was a great earthquake:
for the angel of the Lord
descended from heaven,
and came,
and rolled back the stone
from the door,
and sat upon it.
3. His countenance
was like lightning, and
his raiment
white as snow.
4. And for fear of him the
keepers did shake, and
became as dead men,
5. And the angel
answered and said unto
the women,
Fear not yet: for I know
that ye seek Jesus,
which was crucified.
6. He is not here:
for He is risen as He said.
Come, see the place
where the Lord lay.
7. And go quickly, and
tell His disciples that
He is risen from the dead; and,
behold, He goeth
before you into
Galilee:
there shall ye see Him:
Lo, I have told you.
Luke 23.55 - 24.9
Luke 23. 55 And
the women also, which
came with Him from
Galilee, followed after, and be held
the sepulchre, and how His
body was laid.
v.56 And they returned and prepared
spices and ointments
and rested the sabbath day
according to the commandment.
Luke 24. 1 - 9
v.1 Now upon the first
day of the week, came into
the sepulchre, bringing
the spices which they
had prepared, and certain
others were with them.
v.2 And they found the
stone rolled away.
v.3 And they entered in,
and found not the body of
the Lord Jesus.
v.4 And it came to pass,
as they were much perplexed
thereabout, behold,
two men stood by them in
shining garments:
v.5. And as they were
afraid, and bowed down
their faces to the earth,
they said unto them,
Why seek ye the living
among the dead?
v.6. He is not here, but
is risen: remember how
He spoke unto you
when He was yet in
Galilee?
v.7 saying, The Son of Man
must be delivered into the
hands of sinful men, and be
crucified, and the third
day rise again.
v.8 And they rememberd His
words,
v.9 And returned from the
sepulchre, and told all these
things unto the eleven, and
to all the rest.
v. 10 It was Mary Magdalene,
and Joanna, and Mary the
mother of James, and other
women that were with the,
which told these things unto
the apostles.
Matthew 28.2
The mother of Jame and Joses
is the Mary of Joseph who birthed
Jesus.
Each of these women
returned to tell the Apostles
"He is risen"
Mark 16. 1 - 5
repeats the same. They
came v. 2 to the door
of the sepulchre and as
they approached,
They were asking
Who will roll away the
stone from the
door of the sepulchre?
v.4 And when they looked, they saw
that the stone was
rolled away: for it was
very great.
v.5 And they saw a young man
sitting on the right side,
clothed in a long white garment" and
they were affrighted:
v.6 And he saith unto them,
Be not frighted. Ye seek
Jesus of Nazareth, which was
crucified: He is risen; He is
not here: behold the
place where He lay.
v. 7 But go your way, tell
His disciples and Peter that
He goeth before you
into Galilee: there you
shall see Him,as
He said unto you.
v.8 And they went out
quickly
and field from
the sepulchre;
for they trembled,
and were amazed:
neither said they any thing
to any man; for
they were afraid.
The angel had told
them to go
to the disciples
This they did.
Jesus appeared to Peter
probably in the afternoon.
When they told the
apostles,
Jesus met them
v. Matt. 28.9
As they went to tell His
disciples,
Jesus met them, saying,
All Hail
And they worshiped Hi.
Matthew 28. 10
Then said Jesus unto them,
Be not afraid: go tell My
brethren that they go into Galilee,
and there shall they see Me.
Some time before that,
John and Peter were
at the tomb
after the
women spoke
to them -
still not
believing
Luke 24.12 Then
arose Peter and ran into the
sepulchre: and stooped
down, he be held the
linen clothes laid by themselves
and departed, wondering
in himself that
which was come to pass.
Luke 24.13 That same
day, two of them
went to a village
called Emmaus,
which was from Jerusalem
threescore furlongs.
Luke 24.14 And
they talked together of
all these things.
Luke 24.15 And it came
to pass, thatm while they
communed together
and reasoned, Jesus Himself
drew near, and went with
them.
Luke 24.16 But their eyes
were Holden, that
they should not know Him.
Luke 24.17 And He said unto
them, What manner of
communications are these
that ye have one to another,
as ye walk and are sad?
Luke 24.18 And one of
them, whose name was
Cleopas, answering said unto
him, Art thou only a
stranger in Jerusalem, and hast
thou not known the things
which are come to pass
there in these days?
Luke 24. 19 And
He said unto them, What
things?
and they said unto Him,
Concerning Jesus of
Nazareth, which was a
prophet mighty in
deed and word before God
and all the people:
Luke 24. 20
And how the chief priests
and our rulers delivered Him
to be condemned to death,
and have crucified Him.
Luke 24. 21 But we trusted
that it had been He
which should have
redeemed Israel: and besides
all this, today is the
third day since these
things were done.
Luke 24.22 Yea, and certain
women also of our company
made us astonished , which
were early at the
sepulchre.
Luke 23.23 And when
they found not His body, them came
saying, that they had also
seen a vision of angels,
which said that He was alive.
Luke 23.24 And certain
of the which were with us
went to the sepulchre and
found it even so as the women
said, but Him they saw not.
Luke 24.25 Then He said
unto them, O Fools, and slow
of heart to believe all that
the prophets have
spoken:
Luke 24.26 Ought not Christ
to have suffered these things,
and to enter into His glory?
Luke 24.27
And beginning at Moses,
and all
the prophets,
He expounded
unto them in
all the scriptures the things
concerning Himself.
Luke 24.28
And they drew near unto
the village, whither they went,
and He made as though
He would have
gone further.
Luke 24.29 But they
constrained Him, saying
Abide with us, for it is
toward evening, and
the day is far spent.
Luke 24.30
And it came to pass, as He
sat at mean with them,
He took bread, and
blessed it,
and brake,
and gave to them,
Luke 24.31. And their
eyes were opened and
they knew Him: and He
vanished out of their sight.
Luke 24.32
And they said to one
another,
Did not our heart burn
within us, while
He talked with us by the way,
and while
He opened to us
the Scriptures?
Luke 24.33
And they rose up the same
day, and returned
to Jerusalem, and found
the eleven gathered
together,
and them
that were with them.
Luke 24.34 Saying, The
Lord is risen indeed, and hath
appeared to Simon.
Luke 24.35 And they told
what things were done in the way
and how
He was known of them
in the breaking
of the bread.
II. He Showed Himself to
the Eleven with Thomas being
absent.
Luke 24. 36 - 43
v.36 And as they thus spoke, Jesus
Himself stood in the midst of
them,and saith
unto them,
Peace be unto you.
Luke 36. 37
But they were terrified
and affrighted,
and suppose
that they had seen a
a spirit
Oh my !
Here they had Him showing
up without
any trouble
just APPEARING
and
they thought
it was a ghost!
Hmm.
Faith in Christ
still we get afraid
What did Jesus say next?
Luke 24. 38 And He
said to them, Why are
ye troubled?
and why? do thoughts
arise in
your heart?
Luke 24.39
Behold My hands and My feet, that
it is I Myself: handle Me and
see: for a spirit hath not flesh
and bones: as you
see Me has.
Luke 24.41
While they yet believe not
for joy, and wondered,
He said unto them,
Have ye here any meat?
Luke 24.42
And they gave Him a piece
of a broiled fish
and of
an honeycomb.
Luke 24.43
And He took it , and
did eat before them.
Luke 24.44 And He said,
These are the word which
I spoke unto you,
while I was yet
with you, that
all things must
be fulfilled.
which were written
in the law
of Moses,
and in
the prophets,
and in the
Psalms, concerning Me.
Luke 24.43
Then open He their
understanding,
that they
might understand
the scriptures.
Luke 24.46
And said unto them,
Thus it is written,
and thus
it behooved Christ
to suffer,
and to rise
from the dead the
third day:
Luke 24.v 47
And that repentance
and remission
of sins
should be preached
in His Name
among all nations,
beginning
at Jerusalem,
Luke 24.48
And ye are witness of
these things:
Luke 24.49
And, Behold, I send the
promise of My Father
upon you: but
tarry ye in Jerusalem,
until ye be
endued with
power
from on high.
Luke 24,50
And He led them out as far
as Bethany, and
He lifted up His
hands,
and blessed
them.
Luke 24. 51
And it came to pass,
while He blessed them,
He was parted from them,
and carried
up unto Heaven.
Matthew 28.18 - 28
Matthew 28. v.18 And Jesus
came, and spake unto them,
saying, All power is given
unto Me in heaven and in earth,
Matthew 28.19
Go ye therefore,
and teach all nations,
baptizing them in the
Name of the Father,
and of the Son,
and of the Holy Ghost,
Matthew 28.20
Teaching them to observe
whatsoever
I have commanded
you,
and, lo, I am with you
always,
even unto the
end of
the world. Amen .
The Proposition:
That even as the witnesses of
Jesus' resurrection
told of this truth,
even so
now
even more
we still
are to
be HIS WITNESSES
And we have His promise
that He would be with us
as we do it, for
HE INDEED IS RISEN
Have you experienced
the personal power of
the Resurrected Christ?
John 1.12
but as many as received Him
to them gave He power
to become the sons of God,
even to them that
believe on His Name.
Romans 3.23
For all have sinned
and come short
of the glory of God.
We all have sinned.
Jesus paid it all.
Romans 6.23
For the wages of sin is death,
but the gift
of God
is eternal life
through
Jesus Christ
our Lord.
2 Corinthians 5.17
Therefore
if any man be in Christ
he is a new
creature,
old things are passed away;
behold,
all things are become new.
2 Corinthians 5.18
And all things are of God,
who hath
reconciled
us
unto Himself by Jesus
Christ, and hath
given to us
the ministry
of reconciliation
2 Corinthains 5.20
NOW THEN we are ambassadors
for Christ, as though
God did
beseech you by us:
we pray you in Christ's
stead,
Be ye reconciled to God.
II Corinthians 5.21
For He hath made Him
to be sin for us who knew
no sin: that we might
be made
the righteousness
of God in Him.
I Corinthians 15. 3 - 5
v.3 For I delivered unto you
first of all, that which I received,
how that Christ
died for our sins
according to the scriptures,
v. 4 and that He was
buried, and that
He rose again the third
day according
to the scriptures,
v. 5 And that He was seen
of Cephas , then of the
twelve,
v. 6 And after that, He was seen of
above five hundred brethren at once:
of whom the greater part
remain unto this
present, but some are fallen asleep.
v.7 after that, He was seen of
James, then of all the apostles,
v.8 And last of all, He was
seen of me also as one
born out of due time.
Here Paul the Apostle writes
that He is giving us the same
message he received
and that the witness
of each was a testimony
of God's Power
and Authority
in our lives.
The Resurrection is
a F A C T
we must each
in our own heart
acknowledge
Him as
The Risen Lord and Saviour
Jesus Christ
John 14.6
I am the way,
the truth
and the life: no man
cometh to
the Father but by Me.
